It is THE landmark of Ehrenfeld: the Helios Tower.

The 44-metre-high lighthouse was built in 1894/95 by the electrical engineering company Helios AG, which was founded in 1888 and made an important contribution to the electrification of transport technology and industry as a whole throughout Europe. For example, the technology used in the lighthouses on Borkum and Wangerooge, as well as many others, originated in Cologne. The Ehrenfeld lighthouse was built to test the beacons that were to be used on the German coast. However, the heliostorm not only served a practical purpose, but was also intended to represent the company in an unusual way. The factory had to close in 1930 for financial reasons, but the tower is a reminder of a time when Ehrenfeld was still an industrial town that only became part of Cologne in 1888.

The tower has even been a listed building since 1986. The tower is not open to the public, but hardly any Ehrenfeld citizen would not want to climb the steps at least once to enjoy the most beautiful city in the world from above.
