Intellectual Property in the Digital Age

The product Pop, hijacked by pirates, betrayed by its once-so-loyal consumers, now leeched rather than bought. Is this really the end of the song, or are values in the musical realm just dancing to a new tune? With the program focus called Values 2.0 (held on Thursday, 13.08.), the c/o pop convention concentrates on the complex issues of intellectual property in the digital age and live web-culture. All relevant perspectives to this theme will be voiced at various points during the programme, aiming to create a focused discussion.

First off in the panel »Values 2.0 – The practice«: This is about the here and now and the status quo in the digital daily life, presented by re:publica (www.re-publica.de). Here meet Christian Hufgard (The Piratenpartei) and Lars Sorbiraj (Gulli.com), with a representative of the GEMA as well as Mark Chung (Freibank) among others. This panel will be moderated by Johnny Haeusler (Spreeblick, re:publica).

»Values 2.0 –The Theory« will then provide the bigger picture: Could the policy of education be the saving anchor for the defence of intellectual property and copyright? Changing values and value decay, a position of points or the final burst? Here, Thomas Krüger (Federal Agency for Civic Education), Dominik Landwehr (Head of the Department of pop and New Media in the Cultural and Social Affairs Directorate of the Migros cooperative federation), Dieter Gorny (Association of the Music Industry) and more, will discuss the »Internet Generation«, as well as the future of the culture industry.

In addition to this, the Institute for Strategy Development (IFSE) will present the results of its large-scale study on »Digital Mentality« in our society.
